If you have a bluetooth (BT) Apple Mouse or Keyboard connected to your Mac and it suddenly does not recognize it anymore, it has probably failed to "pair." Try the following technique to re-pair (pun intended) the device:

  • Mouse
  1. Connect a "wired" mouse (Apple or otherwise) to the computer
  2. Open Bluetooth Preferences found in System Preferences (you should see a list of connected devices, or devices that are not "paired" with the word "pair" next to them)
  3. Turn off the BT mouse by sliding the little switch located underneath it so that the "green" is not showing
  4. Press and hold down the click button as you turn it on (by sliding same switch up) and you should see a blinking, green light appear
  5. You should also see your mouse in the BT device list with a new "pair" label attach next to it
  6. Click on "pair" and you should now be connected!
  • Keyboard
    1. Follow steps 1 and 2 from above
    2. Turn off the keyboard by pushing and holding in the power button (located on the right side of the keyboard near the backspace button)
    3. Turn on the keyboard and continue to hold in the power button for the next few steps.
    4. Find the name of the keyboard with the "pair" label next to it.
    5. Click on the "pair" button.
    6. You will be prompted for the Pairing Code. You can now release the power button, type the pairing code on the keyboard and then press return/enter. (There will be a slight delay whilst the pairing completes - a few seconds).
    7. You should now be paired!
